From Trainee to Consultant: Why We Built Urobank

Urobank didn't start as a business plan. It started with a group of trainees, a looming exam, and a lack of decent resources.

The Problem We Faced

When I was preparing for FRCS(Urol) Part 1, there was no question bank tailored to the exam. Our trainee group searched for practice material and found questions in textbooks that were often the wrong style — not reflective of the actual exam format.

Some were outdated. Some had factual errors. None of them felt like realistic preparation.

So we wrote our own.

Word Document Mocks

We started sharing questions among ourselves, trading them as mock tests on Word documents. It worked, but it was clunky.

I wanted something that felt more like the real exam — web-based, accessible on the move, with proper tracking and feedback. That's when the earliest version of Urobank was born.

From Personal Project to Platform

After passing the exam, it seemed a shame to let the platform gather dust. We decided to open it up to other trainees, and since then we've grown it — slicker look, better features, and more importantly, more and more questions.

We've added features based on what users tell us they need, and the Urobank continues to evolve because trainees keep telling us what would help.

Why This Matters

We're not a faceless company. We're urologists who remember exactly what it's like to prepare for these exams while juggling clinical work.

Urobank exists because we wanted something better — and wanted to share that with trainees going through the exams today.
